Leaf Spring Replacement

I am already mapping out my Winter DIY plans, one of which involves replacing the axle, springs and bunk supports on my trailer. I have a question about leaf springs. Specs usually stipulate the capacity of each spring (ex: #1500 per). Does this mean you would be fine with a total #3000 load (2 springs @ #1500 each)? Should you go with a heavier spring? I realize the more load a spring will carry, the stiffer the spring and the harsher the ride. I don’t want overkill, just what I need with a slight “cushion”.

I just replaced springs and axles. In hindsight I wish I would have gone with torsion axles. All you need on spring replacement is number of leafs, lenght, and what type ends they have. Cant go wrong with the guys at Fields ornamental.
