I was washing up the boat after a recent fishing trip and when I got to the motor to clean it I noticed some oil leaking out of the front. It’s right where the lower unit attaches to the rest of the motor. A small amount of oil is leaking when I put the motor in the upright position. here’s the pix to show you. The arrow in the first picture is showing where it’s coming from and the second is a close up of it. What’s the reason for it and what should I do to fix it? I imagine that this is not normal?
THANKS for any and all help!!

Looks like 2-cycle oil… Check your lower cowl to see if you may be leaking from your oil tank. Mine spills out if I have my oil reservoir too full and tilt my motor. It runs sown the casing and looke like foot oil leaking, but is just two cycle oil running down through the casing. Hopefully this is the same problem you are having. Looks like it is too high (above the fill plug) to be gear oil…
Actually looking at the pictures a little harder, it could be leaking at the shaft seal, but like Chris said, check your foot oil…

For those who might have a similar problem…I finally got the leak fixed. It was a bad inner drive shaft seal. I had all the seals replaced as well as the water pump. Leaks no more! Now if the rain will stop I’ll get to take it out!!
who did the work and what did it cost?
