learning fly fishing

I’ve always wanted to learn how to fly fish. Pretty much done every other type of fishing but fly fishing has always fascinated me. I have a good friend back in England who is a photographer who recently did a shoot for a Fly Fishing company called Vision. And he sent me the props which included a Vision Koma VK78 reel. I now have the excuse to go out and buy a rod and tackle to start fishing.
The question I have is a common one. Which rod? Budget is low. Can I get something I would be pleased to fish with for less than $150. If so, are there any suggestions? I checked out the St. Croix site and they seem to have some options. Are these rods decent? Any ■■■■■■■■ much appreciated.

Cheers.

It seems my question was answered in an earlier post.

Thanks anyway.

Ebay is your friend…lots of deals to be had. Just know what you’re looking for.

If you’re just getting into fly fishing, Charleston Angler would be a good place to start. They have good rods across the price spectrum and very knowledgeable staff. I don’t know about their other stores, but, there is enough lawn behind the West Ashley store to seat your reel on a rod and see how the rod feels/moves. You can try a few and see what works.

Also, watch for their seminars and classes.

If I could, I’d spend my money on a local vendor.

I guess the other local shops might have something, also, but, I’ve never had reason to go looking.

If you’re looking for something that’s reasonable that you can fish for a while, check out the TFO’s… for the money they are hard to beat!

Thanks jmb. I checked out their site and it looks as if it’s a great place to start. I really appreciate it.

PalmerScott is right.
When I was interested in getting started, that’s what I did. Try to hook up with Josh. He spent a lot of time with me trying out different rods and actually giving some casting lessons. He’s good people.
I am really happy with the setup I got, and it wasnt top of the line either.

"Anyone know a good orthodontist?

I have a TFO 8wt, paid $150 for and I love it. I use it for bass all the time here in TX.

Nothing makes a fish bigger than almost being caught!
