Can anyone suggest a led light for flounder gigging?I’m thinking of getting these… If you have used them I would love some reviews of this particular light or any led you would recommend. Thanks.
I have 2 sticks from that company.
Positives:
- Very well made - the acrylic filler (or whatever it is) does a good job. Never seen any water in the tubes.
- Almost no battery drain. Running both lights for 4 hours burns less than 5% of my battery
- No noise
- Safety - 12 volt will tingle you, but not much else.
- Work great when the water is calm
- less expensive start up cost. The cost of a generator is what was the biggest decision maker for me.
Negatives
- Not as bright as I would have hoped.
- Don’t penetrate the water well when there is a wind chop on it. The light seems to get reflected more. This might be due to my setup as well, I keep the lights above the water.
- They seem awesome until somebody with 6, 8 or 10 of the work lights pulls up to you and light up the area like a nighttime sun shining. Then you feel a bit like a guy on a moped next to a harley.
Overall, I think I made the right choice. However, I have considered ‘moving’ up to a generator and might do it if I had extra case floating around. Mostly for deeper light penetration on windy nights.
If you want to see mine on the water, PM me. I live on the water and we can mount up and cruise the creek in about 5 min.
call me old school, but 4, 500watt halogen worklights (9.99 each) have put limits of flounder in the boat for years. Honda or Kawasaki gene is quiet plus running a power inverter lets me keep the trolling motor running all night.
