Legality of hogs question

Duck hunting this season i have seen several spots to kill hogs. Im not sure of the legality of it. I have 2 islands in mind, one salt and one fresh, and couple marsh places near a well known boat ramp. Can i hunt the pigs out there? Whats the laws regarding high tide line and getting out the boat and such? please enlighten me a little, I want to kill some hogs. But i dont want to be trespassing or get in legal troube

anytime you step out the boat on private land your tresspassing. And you can’t legally shot them in the water. So unless you have landowner permission or its wma you can’t legally hunt it.

If you are below the High Tide line you aren’t on Private Property.

Exactly. 2 people two different answers. So you can’t figure them from a boat the same way as deer I figure? But is okay to hop out and shoot them from the mud below the tide mark? I just bust some pigs without legal trouble

I wasn’t aware there was a law against shooting a non game, invasive species of vermin with no protection or season from a boat. Private property not withstanding.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

SCDNR has no regulation against shooting Hogs from a boat.

The State of SC owns it! http://dnr.sc.gov/water/hydro/HydroPubs/assessment/SCWA_Ch_2.pdf
Whether a watercourse is navigable or nonnavigable
appears to have little, if any, bearing on the existence of
riparian rights in South Carolina.41 No cases seem to draw
such a distinction; however, if the natural watercourse is
deemed navigable it is subject to the State?s navigational
servitude to the mean or ordinary high-water lines. A
navigational servitude means that the State holds the
watercourse up to the mean high-water mark in public
trust as a recreational resource and mode of travel for
members of the public. The riparian owner adjacent to a
navigable watercourse is not deprived of access or other
riparian rights

Shoot the pig, take it home, BBQ it, invite the neighbors. Marsh pigs don’t usually eat very good though, on a pig eating scale. High ground hogs taste better.

Hey I’m all for killing the hogs. However I was told if your on dry ground you are tresspassing.

Only if you are above, the High Tide Line!

Cracker is 110% right on a salt Marsh hog. They are nasty. If you just want to kill something for the fun of it, no problem, kill every marsh hog you can. If you want to eat one and enjoy it get one past true salt and even brackish.

On the high water mark, tread very careful. Some land owners get pretty upset over it and it is just not worth the argument. And honestly a wild marsh hog is not worth it.

get permission from landowners and shoot em elizabeth

Let’s face it. Whether or not you are above or below the high tide line is a specious argument. Shooting anything on land you do not consider your own or is not WMA land is not a good thing. It’s like most things in life, if you really have to think about whether or not it’s right or wrong - it’s wrong. Get permission and a lot of brining water to soak that nasty marsh pig.

So if I jump the dike at the local duck impoundment I’m legal? As long as my nuts don’t drag the gate that is. The water on the other side is under the high water mark no?

I’ve shot a few pigs in the salt marsh and none of them were fit to eat. Yuck

From a legal standpoint, at least in GA, wild hogs are considered the property of the land owner and can be taken all year on private land with the owners permission. Hogs out in the salt marsh are on State owned land and you can hunt them during their legal posted season, usually the same as deer, but many WMAs and Federal Refuges have spring hog hunts also.

From a practical standpoint, nobody cares much about wild hogs and unless you pizz off a landowner you aren’t likely to have any trouble.

Thanks yall. I really wanna shoot some pigs just for the hell of it. From a practical standpoint nobody cares about hogs and all want them eradicated. Yet Noone seems to have any interst in letting me or anyone else come out to their property to exclusively kill hogs. Gotta do what you gotta do to shoot some sh*t I guess!!
