let's go sharkin

What do they like and how do I hook/present the bait ?

Just send a teenager off the beach with a hook in each hand.

U kno u ain’t right

Large piece of cut bait on a #8 circle hook with steel leader and plenty of weight. Drop it in a deep channel along with a chum bag full of chopped pogies. Or I have had some good luck with lemons off sand bars in big inlets. Most people on here seem to paddle baits 200 yards or more off the beaches.

Had one bite a live whiting on wire last week from the beach. Penn senator with 50 lb braid. Bent the rod all the way over, broke my PVC rod holder in half, rod and reel flew 20-25 yards down the beach and into the water before I could dive on it and try to set the hook. Unfortunately, the circle hook didn’t do the job for some reason and the hook came out less than 30 seconds later

How was the bait hooked?

Try tail hooking or back hooking live bait.

Most guys I fish with like to tail hook because that’s the end medium sharks eat first.
I hook them though the back because it seems to give more hook-ups. I figure I only want the sharks that eat the bait whole anyway.

I use live bait because I want medium sharks near the lower size limit… better for eating in my opinion

Couple inches from the tail just above the backbone.

Caught this hammerhead while tarpon fishing. Live bait in 12’.
