Lets talk trailer hubs/bearings

Have multiple trailers and want to simplify the lubing if possible.

I do plan to call Wesco monday, but would like to get any ■■■■■■■■ y’all care to share.

My understanding is bearing buddies just apply new grease to outer bearings and can blow out back seal.

Don’t care to do the Aqua Lube, but Tie Down has something that has zerk on inside of hub that claims to push out old grease.

Thanks all in advance.

If you do bearing buddies oil seal needs to be installed backwards to allow grease to “escape” while being forced through both bearings. IMO the best style is the spindle drilled and grease hole is in-between both bearings assuring grease getting to both bearings. Zerk fitting is at the end of the spindle

I have the spindles with the dzerk fitting in the end that fills in between the bearings and it is definitely a better design. I believe it is called posi-lube.

I have a Dexter axle with the grease fittings on the end. There are “passages” that allow grease to get to the back bearings which would have to be better overall than bearing buddies. Though, I would think Bearing Buddies are better than nothing.

After 40 years of jacking with boat trailers I have come to believe that just taking the bearings and races out then cleaning, checking and servicing during the winter off season is the best solution. If trailer launching at frequent intervals bearing buddies or some of the better more modern versions with a small hit of grease occasionally through the season is probably a good idea.
