Hey it’s been a while since I have posted and I hope everyone is doing well.
I have a 16 year old son who turned 16 in January and lives in Florida with his mom. He comes back to Columbia once a month and basically all summer to stay with me. He is also here during spring break. He has a learners permit in Florida. My question is do I have to buy him a non resident fishing license for sc? I would assume that I would but want to make sure. We are planning to fish Murray and clarks hill over his spring break. I just want to make sure I do this the right way. Any advice will be appreciated and thanks.
He already has a FL ID and a non-resident fresh water licence is only $35/year.
I don’t know if there’s a way to legally make him an SC “resident” in your situation, but even if there is, I can’t imagine it would be worth the effort to save $25.
At 16, he’s required to have a license, resident or not. As previously mentioned, it’s $35 for 1 year for non-resident.

Not knowing the entire situation, I would be careful associating a SC residence with him, as it could affect any benefits he may be getting as a Fla resident. This is sometimes the case with out of state students. I’d pay it.
I would pay the non-resident fee for SC because the non-resident fee for Florida is more PLUS the shoreline saltwater fishing license is available to Florida residents only.
Nonresident saltwater anglers must purchase a regular nonresident saltwater fishing license at $17 for three days, $30 for seven days or $47 for one year, regardless of whether they fish from shore or a vessel.
