Just curious how many others practice this. When running out in the am and returning in the pm everyone on my boat has on an automatic PFD. Rather be safe then sorry and all it takes is one wave, a log or something else to put everyone in the drink at 0500. Any other CC boats practice this as well or am I just overly cautious?
I don’t but i have thought about doing that. Another potential scenario is that someone just falls overboard behind everyone and you dont notice for several minutes because you couldnt hear over the drone of the motors.I think what you do is pretty reasonable. While fishing though, i don’t think i could ever wear one.

Agree, once we get to the location vest are off. Yeah you rolling at 35 to 40 knots and someone falls over and you don’t realize it for 2 or 3 mins. You will never find them in the early morning darkness.

Fountain 32CC with that Verado power
No, but you're the Captain of your boat and it's your rules. Excellent care for your passengers. I got salt water activated strobes I make my kids wear.
I make my riders tell me when they go to micturate…anytime I’m running. You fall out of a boat unknown…you’re in big trouble…hard to spot a pin head in a big ocean…
No, not a bad idea we just don’t see the need to. My inflatable has a locator beacon a strobe and whistle attached. I Keep it and the spare inflatable within arms reach on the running station console. Have regular vests for the rest of the crew on the floor board or within arms length right inside the cabin. We can grab them in a matter of seconds. But nobody is standing up on our rides out in the dark. Usually sleeping on bean bags or sitting up rigging baits. We stop runnng if anyone has to pee.
Automatic PFD’s don’t count as a life preserver unless you have it ON in SC and other states . If you don’t wear them you better have another pfd for each person on board.

Just say pee… Never been able to take a leak at cruising speed. Besides the wind can make for a messy situation. We always stop the boat if anyone needs a pee break.

Well, in the main question I state they are being worn. But I guess when we are fishing or out in the harbor for a relaxing day and they are not being worn the other 12 on board will do.
By the way…I don’t know which uneducated DNR officer yall talked too but here is what DNR says about life jackets
Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs)
All boats must have a US Coast Guard approved wearable type PFD for each person on board or being towed. Each PFD must be in good condition, readily available and the proper size for the intended wearer. In addition, boats 16 feet in length or longer must carry a Type IV throwable device. In South Carolina, any person under twelve years of age must wear a US Coast Guard approved Type I, II, III, or V PFD when on board a class “A” (less than 16 ft. long) boat.
It doesn’t state which class. Just that it has to be a wearable USCG approved PFD. A class 5 auto inflatable is a USCG approved life jacket. Whoever told you guys you had to have them on is sadly mistaken.
Chad , I stand corrected . I was commenting about the pfd to a fisherman wearing one and he said a game warden told him that . I told him it sounded like a stupid rule .
Probably a bit more stupid of me not to wear anything . The reason I ask him is because I have been giving a lot of thought of wearing an inflatable one because they would be cooler … need to get 2 , one for me and one for a guest .The others can wear the hot ones .
I almost always single hand my 25 CC. I come out of the Ashley. my procedure is always the same. Once past the bridges I set the antennas, put on an auto PDF, clip a signal kit to my belt, and snap on the kill switch lanyard.
On site I’ll sometimes keep the PDF on if it’s rollin. The signal kit gets tied to a rail with a slip knot. If PFD is off, it is also attached to the signal kit on the same slip knot.
Everything goes back on for the return. PLB is always attached to PFD.
Probably over-kill but at least I’d have a fighting chance.
