Life Vest

I was sitting at a boat ramp over the weekend people watching and I saw alot of folks riding around without their vest on,I was wondering how many of you wear your vest while riding around or sitting still fishing? I am a guilty one for taking my vest off when I get to someplace that I’m gonna fish and put it back on when I move.I know that I lead by example, but my sonm wants to do as dad does and I keep telling him that he needs to keep his on.

I just started wearing one a few months ago. It is a self inflating one and is pretty comfortable. If it is just me and the kids I leave it on to lead by example. If it is me and the boys, I’m the “h0m0 in the lifejacket” while we are running and take it off to fish. I figure with adults they could operate the boat and get me back in if I fell out while at rest. I did wear it all day a few weeks ago when I was by myself 40 miles off. I just had ankle surgery and don’t think I could tread water for 2 long. I do intend to make it part of my ritual regardless of my health. I have 2 much to live for 2 die from something so stupid.

I always have it on while working. When a situation arises that necessitates a life jacket, you will more than likely not have enough time or be capable to put it on.

I wear mine while moving and take it off when I am anchored. I will also wear it while anchored during the winter when the water temp falls.

Life Vest===PFD. I guess I'm to dam old to call them pfd's,them letters are for the younger folks.

Double D.

BSB I’ve seen them do the same, one which of course was mine which I thought was under the bow.

Double D.

Im guilty of not wearing one unless the weather is horrible or alone. My family doc (Dr Jowers) was a tourney Bass fisherman from Lake Murray and was fishin alone, slipped, knocked himself out and they found him 2 days later…floatin, but not b/c of the pfd. Fishin alone esp, it is a very wise idea, esp the easy wearin inflatables.

I always wear mine when solo or with the little one in the boat. If it’s me and a fishing buddy, I wear it while we are running, then it comes off to fish. I was thinking about buying an inflatable that I can wear all the time, I think that’s the safest way to go. I swim pretty good but I’m no Mike Phelps by any means. Thats a good point about wearing a jacket to make a good example for the little ones. But I wear mine when he’s in the boat with me because if I fall out and for whatever reason can’t get back in, he’s not yet strong enough to help drag me back aboard. Especially if I knock myself out or something falling out of the boat. I’ve never actually had to do it, but I’m sure pulling an unconcious person in a boat is pretty tough even for a grown up.

I think they are orange.

I wear mine when running but I have the auto inflatable ones. Then again I always attach my kill switch to me too.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Greg was a great guy and hell of a bass fisherman. A mustang may not have saved his life in that situation, but it would have saved a few days of anxiety for his family and friends. Mine stays on in the winter, but I'm kinda slack in warm weather.
