I figured with the recent rains and run off the water would be dirty and all things besides that were in line for good flats fishing. Low tide, sunset, warm sunny afternoon etc…Dirty water doesnt matter to me for reds, i like it a little dirty or atleast some wind to make me less visible. I get to the spot where the creek meets bigger water there is this crazy brown mud line and dark water. The dark water was crystal clear and dark because you could see the bottom, it was a super defined line. I waded out and started throwing a mirrodine close to the color line on the clear side. About 10 cast and i caught a 13ish inch trout. Then the color line moved in and i couldnt find anymore trout. I wade fished about a quarter mile in the bigger water and my toes got cold from the water and i could feel cold on my legs through my waders and longjohns. With the bite deade there i waded back to the flat. The water was stupid clear and calm and i was spooking reds from like 75 to 100ft out. When the sun was setting and beaming orange the reds would move up to the sunny edge close to me and would spook when i cast. Wading in the flats and my toes dethawed and my legs warmed up. Definitely a feelable difference in temps. I caught 1 red on the zman scented paddler but its been on my rod for a while so it had no scent on it. A couple of those holding hits that let go when the rod bows up and a few baby pecks. The bite was very light and tough to get. There were plenty of reds around but tough conditions. I was looking at a mirror reflecting the sky and the reds could see out way better than i could see in. Pops styed stationary with mudminnows and caught 2 and lost 3 reds, he kept his limit and is looking forward to frying them up in Andy’s batte, yes its better then house of autry. I caught a trout and a red both released healthy.
Nice report, makes me want to try wade fishing.
I thaught you were a real man till I read about the waders! Thanks for all the shareing!
The waders went on a week or 2 ago. I plan to have kids someday, I cant freeze them off. It was 40 degree and 15 plus winds in low 50s water, in open water, plus there are oyster covered rocks everywhere that i like a little protection from. My oyster boots fill up with water and my waders hold air so its like being in low gravity with a foot massager and makes me a littlt lighter on the ft.
Wadefishing is probably the best way to dissect a area. I know where all the rocks are mud and sand changes. The slow pace and so much contact with water and bottom. You can feel warmer streams
He did the old school filet method. 2 fillets not cut close to the bones and a meaty back bone piece is left. Tbe second highest yeild method behind cooking them whole.
Redfish, is in 4th for fish ive eaten this year.
