I think some of y’all would be amazed at just how many people have the same “numbers” off our coasts. 3 decades of cornholing, swapping, stealing, and selling will do that. I personally do not share stuff unless it’s something I personally found or was invested in/helped find. I feel I have more of a right to share it at that point if I choose. I don’t say much about where I fish in my reports not because I feel like they’re my secret spots. The irony is that they aren’t anybody’s secret spots but more like some people have all or almost all the spots so if you say just a few bits of info they will know exactly where you were and you’ve just told them something much more valuable than the numbers with your www report!
What you have to understand is that the value isn’t in the numbers. It’s having the options and those options not being WORN OUT. It’s having the info on WHICH of the options that aren’t worn out are where the fish are piled up so you maximize your effort and time when you get to go.
It is laudable that someone hadn’t dove this spot until this report and all, but I don’t think that’s what skinnee is talking about. I think he is talking about the fact that several boats were on it and have been on it repeatedly recently. Knowing those facts alone would cause me to avoid the entire area, so you don’t have to worry about me. I go where I can’t see other boats because if you can’t see other boats, the fish bite better it seems to me. Boats come within sight, and I am looking for my next spot. I don’t know if the other boats just cause the grouper to get poor mouth or if other boats mean that they actually PUT MORE PRESSURE ON THAT AREA. Either way, my preference of fishing where I am alone and unknown seems to be the only way to get a few good fish when I get a chance to go.
Some people, unfortunately, are drawn to wherever they see other boats out there though. It won’t be long before you understand what happens when people treat grouper fishing like shrimp baiting or dolphin slinging if you
Jason and phin, I clearly stated twice that we were diving 23 & 25 miles north of were we normally go! this was the first trip to those #s for me and more then a year for zack as he was activated for the last yr and in alabama training. the boat owner and my friend from fla had never been before! I hate to inform you that just because you THINK you know where we were, just makes you uninformed! we saw no other boats all day! I have plenty of my own #s that I share with everyone I dive and fish with and that anyone can find on the many trips to the ledge on trolling runs, with minimal knowlege, with a depth/fish finder and a maps unique! I find my spots by fishing many times before using my precious bottom time. (homework) To suggest that I lack ethics and integrity just goes to show that you are firing from the lip and don’t know me or my friends. a quick look at past posts would show we haven’t had much luck the last few months diving south thus less likley depleting the resources at your spots, wherever you think that is!
phin is correct, many #s i fish are in the units of many peoples boats, all im saying is it isnt fished by everyone the same way! just because you caught grouper there dosn’t mean I can and visa versa! I wont dive were other boats are fishing just for safty concerns.
We don’t have the sucsess we have diving jasons #s, its all about options and homework. Two and sometimes three times a week diving and fishing all year will pile up good spots quick. I don’t do it to limit, just love to limit when I do it!

1.) I’ve never complained about receiving number’s, nor will I ever.
2.) Yes there are red snapper there

SJ, are you saying it’s easier for you to catch fish on R&R than it is for you to kill them with spring steel? I just can’t imagine that it’s easier to catch on R&R. The only arguement is that not EVERYBODY can dive but everyone can fish. That’s the only way I could see it being more difficult. I also agree with SJ that a resource shouldn’t be fished and dove on 20-30 times per year. Really a ledge or natural resource unlike a wreck, rubble, etc…

Bug, I never said that you had a lack of ethics. I’ve actually heard that you were a pretty good dude. I originally gave criticism that you guys (you, miss emily, zack) were hitting the same spots over and over again during the year and that you shouldn’t over pressure your spots or fish them on saturdays when everyone else was on the water (see my first couple of posts). If you already agree with this philosophy, then I didn’t tell you anything that you didn’t already know, but at least we educated others that actually do this, and I apologize for telling you something that you already knew.
