alright, since I’m a couple hours away and it’s getting cold up here I’m working on getting ready for next spring/summer. I know that I may catch a little crap for not posting this in the “correct place” but I need some rigging help. I have two 6’6" penn slammers, one with a 320 GTI and one with a 330 GTI. I’m looking for suggestions on how to spool them.
- Braid/mono/flouro
- line weight cap.
I’d like to do some shark fishing etc. possibly some bottom fishing. Here’s the kicker;fishing will be done primarily from a kayak. I’m interested to see the suggestions. Thanks everybody
#20 braid with a 15# flouro leader, i’ll bump the flouro to #20 if I am soaking bait… I can throw soft plastics with it and soak bait as well… good all purpose line

With those rigs I would run at least 50# braid if you are going to ever bottom fish from a boat because you can tighten the drag to around 20+#.
The least expensive way to use braid to to fill the reels most of the way with mono (I would use 30# on the 320 and 40# on the 330) then add a 150 yard topshot of braid. Bottom fishing with a heavy drag you will never get into the mono. Shark fishing you will run a lighter drag and you want at least 250 yards of line total.

Good points… if you are fishing for reds and trout 20# is fine if ya want sharks I suggest you leave the kayak and get in a power boat… TooBusy got dragged near out the harbor by a shark before he finally cut it loose…

thanks hair, I’ll look at that setup. I think I can get away with a little lighter being that I can use the yak as drag and put a little more line just in case. NJ, I don’t think Ive ever heard that story but I have a buddy with a boat that loves to shark fish and I’ve wanted to do that for a couple years now and have him chase me if need be. I’m getting this stupid itch after watching tons of videos on youtube of guys cathching sharks from yaks in australia. I’m planning on doing it right though and making sure I have backups for backups etc. etc. if you want in give me a call and I’ll talk to my buddy. don’t think it’ll be an issue. it’ll be next spring/summer so we got plenty of time. thanks guys.
