Absolutely. Personally, I use braid for my “main line” for a few reasons.

  1. Braid has a smaller diameter when compared to comparable “pound test” in fluorocarbon (20lb test braid has a diameter equivalent to 6lb test fluorocarbon). This enables you to put more line on the spool while using smaller reels.
  2. The smaller diameter line casts better than larger diameter line.
  3. Braid doesn’t stretch and therefore has more sensitivity than fluorocarbon.
  4. While braid is typically more expensive than fluorocarbon line, braid will last longer and therefore doesn’t have to be replaced as often.

I use artificial lures 99.99% of the time so these attributes are a few of the reasons why I use braid as a main line. Different applications may call for different approaches so don’t take mine as “the only way” by any means.

That’s a good line to leader knot, also look at the GT knot, it’s my go to! Once you practice it a time or 2 it becomes fairly easy to tie!
