liscense requirements for fishing?

Do you have to have a fishing liscense to fish form a kayak? I couldn’t find anything on the subject on the SCDNR website.

As long as you do not attach a motor, you technically do not need a Fishing License if fishing Salt Water from as Kayak. I believe you need one for fresh water regardless.

What do you mean by “technically”? Not to be disrespectfull but that wording sounds alot like a guaranteed ticket if a warden is having a bad day. Does it say anywhere that I do or Don’t have to have a fishing liscense to fish from my kayak. The only motor I have is my arms and the tide.

Oops…I re-read the current years laws, and there is no distinction made. It appears that a license is required for all boats.

Here is the link to the regs:

Good thing I always have a license anyways.

Thanks for the info. I am from NC and am not real familiar with the regs on kayaks in the saltwater in SC. I hate to buy a liscense next week when they run out at the end of the month! Man that stinks worse than a bait cooler with no ice in july!

Yakonthefly… Did ya’ll try the lagoon out last weekend? , get any bites?

Week before last, sure did. Caught two nice (14") whiting and a grunt. Lots of crabs stealing bait, actually was able to flip one into my tankwell, but missed the rest… Need to get me a dip net!
