Well, I’m back in CT for a few days to do some fishing (currently in a rain delay) but the day before boarding my flight we got out for some jigging and trolling on the SeaVee.
We left the marina at 05:30 and were headed to some of our grouper numbers when we ran over a huge mass of bait in 100’ feet. The electronics showed some sizable fish beneath so we doubled back and dropped the flatfall jigs down. We were on instantly with some nice Red Snapper.
We played around there for a bit but kept moving towards our deeper numbers. Grouper were tough. I hooked the only two of the day. The first got me in the rocks and broke me off, the second got eaten on the way up. We had fast action with plenty of other stuff including a small African Pompano.
We put the spread out by 9:30 and trolled our way up the ridge towards Georgetown Hole. 32 minutes later, we had a wahoo in the boat.
We made a few more passes in the general area with no other hits and went back to jigging for the remainder of the day. Other than a hitchhiker and few more bottom fish, the rest of the day was fairly uneventful. Made it back to the dock by 17:30… Not a bad 12 hours!
