little help please

I have been wanting to try my luck for stripers on lake murray with a fly rod . I have a STH MR-Pop 3 pop cassette reel .I broke the rod I bought with it a few years ago. Luthi’s outfitter’s in Greenville say they have an 8 wt TFO for $80 . I am a rookie and can only do a single haul …is this a good starter rod reel set up ? Anybody want to sell an old rod that may be better for my needs ? Thanks in advance.

tHAT ROD SHOULD BE PERFECT, AND TAHT SOUNDS LIKE A PRETTY GOOD DEAL. i THINK THAT REEL WILL BE FINE ON mURRAY. i MAY HAVE AN 8 WEIGHT FOR SALE, BUT YOU REALLY WOULD BE BETTER OFF DROPPING 80$ TO START WITH.

$80 and TFO will warranty. Buy it from Stan, Mike & Steve- you will not regret. Great guys. Small white Clousers work well this time of year.

Jeff

$80 is a good deal but I would put your hands on the rod before you buy it to see if you like the action.

experience noun \ik-#712;spir–#601;n(t)s

  1. the fact or state of having been affected by or gained knowledge through direct observation or participation

  2. that thing you get just moments after you needed it.

Steve sold me an Emerald green work of art. It’s only my second fly rod so I can only say that the action is like an expensive graphite golf club , in that It has enough flex and sensitivity where I can feel it load up. Then feels really strong when I unload. I never could quite get a double haul before I broke the last one. I’m getting fair distance already with a single haul. Going back to Luthi’s for sinking line and some fly’s . Thanks for input ya’ll .I feel like I got a fair deal.

You got step Three.

You just need to relax and slip step number Two in there. That intermediate haul. What made it easy for me was to start ‘back-casting’. When you realize that casting forward is as easy as casting backwards then you get that hauling forward is the same as hauling backwards.

Thanks iFly. I plan on a few day’s practice in the yard then going to hit lake Murray later this week. I’ll post if I have any luck.
