little help

Any one know of areas to fish around greenville, fishing for trout. Just going to the area for a few days in April. Not looking for exact holes just streams to throw a fly around.

Only place I know of is the Chattooga DH. There are some places farther into GA and up into NC that are good as well.

The savannah river comes out of hartwell (hwy 29 or 181) SC and GA each stock 12,000 'bows here b/w feb and june. a few fingerling browns are also stocked w/ hopes of nat. reproduction. fish close to dam. water releases: 706 376-3500 (corp of eng.) prob. not the best, but poss. the closes. best of luck

i like the cherokee reservation but its a pretty good haul from gville. i think sc game and fish had an article a couple years back. if i remember there are basically 3 or 4 stocked rivers mostly up by the nc line. chatooga is one. i think they are archived online.

we dont need no reservations we dont need no cruise control

There are several streams up off of Highway 11 in Greenville, Pickens, and Oconee county. I used to fly fish the Eastatoee River up above Pickens when I lived there. Also, a little farther north is Davidson River in Pisgah National Forest (NC). There are also some streams that you could probably fish up around Jones Gap State Park, which i believe is in Greenville County. Hope this helps

Thanks for all yalls info. Looking forward to spending a day just wetting a line in a new area.

BassAckwards-

Call Chuck and Bill at Foothills Fly Fishing when you’re coming. Those guys own a cool little fly shop here in Greenville, and can get you up-to-date info/reports on the Saluda, Green, Chattooga, Mills and Davidson rivers, etc. April is a GREAT time here, and we’ve been getting rain lately- streams are finally shaping up. Call those boys at (864) 292-2406. Our other fly shop is called DK Littleton’s and if you want to get on some private water (read: BIG fish) call em at (864) 370-3474- ask for Spider. They have a private lease with some huge fish, and may have an open date. Finally, you can log onto www.hunterbanks.com which is a great fly shop in Asheville. They have a stream reports section that is worth taking a look at. Email me at FenderMenderSC@bellsouth.com with any questions.

Jeff

Thanks Jeff,
I will call and really appreciate your help.

Whats up BassAckwards I live in Greenville…The trout fishing around here is not very good. The saluda offers some decent trout fishing for stocked trout. If your up this way in April give me a shout. I dont trout fish around here much but I know of some nice private bass ponds etc. Would be happy showing you a few spots. UpstateAngler gave you some good advice about foothills flyfishing. Chuck and Bill would know the scoop on the Trout. I got spoiled trout fishing in Jackson Hole so I kinda gave up on the local trout streams around here.

do not go to the green river, my only advice
