Little River Report

PLEASE!!! LOL I haven’t had time to get out much, but the few times I have been out was to Cherry Grove with the 10 gazillion other boats. I’m ready to head back up to some of the honey holes at Little River. Are y’all catching fish steady yet, or is it still early. My job and family has changed my ability to go as I please, so I need a touch of help, if y’all don’t mind! Thanks in advance!

I haven’t been out either so I can’t help. Have any of the gazillions been catching anything in Cherry Grove?

I haven’t been out much either I will hopefully be out this weekend and let you know the few times I have been the fishing has been spotty though

caught a nice limit of good sized Spanish, will probably try again this weekend. Anybody ever sight cast for Cobia along the beaches? I saw a nice one the other day, but didn’t have a rod ready for him.

My buddy went out Wednesday morning and caught four Reds 30 -35" at the jetties and he said the two boats he talked had several nice flounder.

On Friday, May 23, a friend and I trolled out of Little River Inlet to Jim Caudle. I usually do not troll out of the inlet because of the boat traffic but there was none when we were going out. Of course the one time I try it, the water is cloudy and nothing happens. As we got farther out towards Caudle, the water cleared and we picked up a nice Blue. The Blue must have been going in the opposite direction, passed by the spoon and then jumped on it, because I don’t know how it could have caught it at the speed we were trolling! Anyway, nothing else happened until we got to Caudle and then the Spanish attacked us! When we slowed to bring in a Spanish, a Blue would attack the other line. My wife and I do not eat Spanish, but my friend does so he went home exhausted and happy!

According to the way it’s starting off (Spanish, Flounder and Drum) , the fishing seems to be some of the best in the last 2-3 years. So goozeman, you need to make some plans…

a friend and I caught 27 Spanish yesterday, then at the nearshore reef, I was jigging a Sabiki rig for bait. Not much luck with the bait…Couldn’t keep the weakfish off my line. Fun Times!

Sounds like some good fishing. Toddn, you can make a king rig, but with flouro instead on wire. Catch a few pogies and have a bait hooked up in the live well so that when you see the man in the brown suit, aka cobia, you can pitch the bait and you’ll probably hook up. They like bucktails too, by the way! We probably going to try and hit LR this week/weekend sometime. I want to flounder around the rocks. We did real good last fall out there.

I do keep a Battle 6000 ready with a Sebille soft swimbait. Cobia love it.

Gooze,

I fished in LIttle River last week one day. I fished for 3 hours and caught a few flounder and redfish. All flounder were too small and redfish were too big. I was fishing the low rise and caught everything on artificial baits of course. The fish are around…you just got to look for them a little. and yes the spanish bite is off the chain.

I’ve been having a lot of luck with mud minnows and gulp shrimp behind bird island. Seems like for every 5 flounder you catch right now, one of them might be pushing 15". Anchored at the jetties the other day with no luck, live croaker on the bottom with a few mud minnows thrown at the rocks, the wind and tide wasn’t the best. The charter boats at work have been slamming spanish and I see a nice Cobia get brought at least every other day. Trying to get out to the Caudle soon and find one for myself.
