Little Saluda River muddy still?

nm

I know someone who checked both rivers off of 391 and said they are as muddy as he’s seen them in a while. He posted above in the striper forum

Wellcraft V-20 sportfish with a 200 Evinrude

How muddy was it? I heard the water was so muddy that a racoon left tracks when he walked across it.

Spoonmaster, I’ll definitely be fishing the upper mid-lake tomorrow and will launch across from your place. You gonna fish tomorrow? it would be good to see you.

It looked like chocolate milk when we crossed over the bridges

“Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”

Fogman, I’ll be playing in a golf tournament. Supposed to tee it up at 8:00. If all goes well I’ll give you a call when I’m back home.
I haven’t taken the boat out since coming back from Florida.
If I were you I’d head down lake about a mile or three from here and fish either side, or shoot straight across to the other side from here. The water looks pretty dingy in our neck to me. But the other side seems to always be a little clearer than this one.
It’s about time for your old springtime creek to heat up, but that’s a pretty long ride down lake from here. Remember the old days trolling the little fishy? That’s where I would like to be if I was fishing for those striped fish today. Used to set up and troll at 10’ to 15’ and couldn’t stop those old stripers from biting down there.
Good luck today. Catch a big one.

I should have been fishing all day instead of playing golf.
Got a late start fishing and they were biting the spoons pretty good. Had 2 nice largies, 2 barely short stripers and 13 mostly jumbo perch. Lost two big fish, probably either stripers or catfish. Water was pretty dingy and most of the fish bit between 25’ and 27’. Water temp was 49 or less at the spots I was fishing. Trolling batteries went weak or I would have caught a lot more fish. Couldn’t hold the toon boat over them in the wind with weak batteries. They are charging now. Hopefully the fish will be in the same biting mood tomorrow.
Caught every fish on the 1/2 oz. white/silver and white/silver glitter Berry spoons. I did try one other spoon for about 15 minutes but never got a hit on it. I thought it was strange that they wanted the white in very dingy water.

Spoonmaster, My brother inlaw and myself caught 29 big perch Saturday morning till the front arrived around 9:30 and not another bite when we gave it up at 11AM. We caught them in 32 foot of water in your area of the lake.:sunglasses:

Thanks for the report. I assure you that it was a lot more fun winding in those fish than it was trying to hit that little white ball in the cold. Atleast while fishing I could wear enough clothes to keep warm. I got so cold on the golf course that I could hardly swing a club. we missed 1st place by three strokes.
I probably didn’t start fishing until 3:30 or later yesterday, but they were definitely hungry then. If I’d done my homework and had fully charged batteries I’d have caught a bunch more fish. They were holding really well in a certain spot, but the wind kept blowing me off of the fish. Whenever it would slack off I’d get back on them. I didn’t want to throw out a marker because there were a lot of other boats in the area. One other boat did come up and ask if I minded if they fished near me. They caught a nice 5 lbs. bass and some big perch too.

When I get too old to fish, I’m going to take up golf. Kinda let’s you know where it is on my priorities!

Rick

Looks like today would be a great day for fishing. All I’d need is a couple of 5 gallon buckets. I could just walk the bank and pick up the ones the wind blew out of the water!
Golf is definitely lower on my list than fishing.

Is it worth fishing above big mans?
coming in early saturday morning from out of town.
Thanks for any info.

It should have had time to clear a good bit up above Big Man’s. I may ride up there later Saturday if my down-lake spots don’t pay off early.

I walked down to the dock late yesterday afternoon. I’m in the elbow area and the water here was definitely a lot muddier than it was this past weekend. Not sure if it was the wind stirring up the shallows or if the muddy water has just made it this far down lake. I’m on call this week so I can’t take the boat out until Monday afternoon.
Fogman, there was a down lake spot behind a certain island where I fished with you and your Dad years ago. The gulls were really working hard in there yesterday. It’s across from the old dirt ramp. You caught some nice bass there a couple of years ago. It might pay for you to check it out if you’re in that area.

10-4! I’ll take a look if I see bird activity.
