live bait

I am very seriously considering a yak. Actually found one for sale online and going to look at it tomorrow night. Just wandered what you guys do for live bait? I know the malibu and the hobie have different rigs for this, what if you have another brand? Would the bait bucket over the side create too much drag? Thanks for your help.

I carry a Flow-Troll…if I had mud minnows in it, I just keep in the kayak and change the water out when I re-bait. With shrimp or small mullet I keep it in the water when possible, but if I’m on the move, I put it in the kayak due to the drag it will create.

What he said. A live well would be great but my 135 does not have one so the Flow-Troll works fine.

It’s hard to beat a simple Flow-Troll bait bucket

I am pretty spoiled with our built in Bait Tank on our Stealth kayaks
You can install a live well pump ? but what I use is a small battery powered bubbler and it keeps the bait all day long
Oh did I say no Milk Crate either!

The Jackson Big Tuna offers a center hatch that can be used either for dry storage, a fish bag insert, or you can drill some holes into the tub and it becomes a free flowing live well or bait well.

My personal experience is with mud minnows and shrimp works great.
