The last two weekends live bait has eluded me and I have headed out with an empty live well. Is anyone finding bait consistently before heading offshore?
What kind of live bait are you looking for? For Menhaden follow the birds also, Menhaden tend to show better after full sunrise. Pinfish can be caught around the marsh edges on hook and line. Mullet can be cast-netted. You can also use a sabiki rig at the shipping channel buoys for cigar minnows. If you don’t find them on one buoy move to the next. Sometimes bait is so thick you catch it in minutes. Other times you can invest a lot of time into it.

Thank for the input. Looking mostly for menhaden and just have not been able to find the birds but I have been heading out around 6 to 6:30ish. No issues with catching mullet but tides been too high the last couple times out and I’ve been too impatient to get back in the creeks to find them. I’ll try a sabiki rig. Which channel buoys? The ones in the cut or ones outside in open water?

Never have issues loading up on menhaden in short time at sunrise just off the beach.

After being released, a lot of fish die, but a lot of them live also.
We, along with about 200 other boats will be looking for bait at sunrise on Friday morning. Menhaden are usually reliable on the Morris beachfront but not always. Been skunked there a few times at prime time.
