Does anyone know of anywhere that may have them this time of year? If not a bait store, maybe by catch from a commercial boat?
Call Bennett’s Point… I haven’t been by there in years, but I think they used to sell them there.

That’s mostly during cobia season. Try setting a minnow trap in a rocky area, maybe around a bridge, with not a lot of water at low tide. Bait it with shrimp. That’s how we used to catch them.

If you find any try grabbing some Spanish moss and use it to hold them while hooking em. I’ve done the sock over the hand and gloves, but Spanish moss is the trick. I also like to beat em on the head just enough to not kill but keep them from tying your line in a knot.
Come to think of it, I haven’t seen live eels at any bait shop in a while.

Yea, I knew it was a long shot this time of year. We’ll try the minnow trap.
The plan is to cut them up, so hooking them won’t be an issue. We get the same house on IOP for Thanksgiving week for about 12 years now. Use artificials on the boat, but the landlubbers and kids like throw out a couple rods off the dock. We happened to catch an eel one year and used it as cut bait. It was the best we’ve ever done off the dock for both size and numbers of redfish.

Joe hasn’t had eels for a long time Dockman. Every time I stop there I usually get more bait than I need. Poor lady got robbed a couple of years ago. Talk about someone that did not deserve it! Love to have beat who ever it was with a 2x4.
