Live Well Pump Replacement

I have 2 livewell pumps onboard and I want to replace the forward pump with a Washdown Pump. Then I would connect the washdown hose to the forward live well fitting. This way I can have a high pressure washdown and still use the live well by disconnecting the hose. Will this create any issues?

Thanks.

Plumbed right, I can’t think of any. My livewell pump on the SeaPro is rigged that very same way. Just have to close the valve to the livewell and open the valve for the washdown. Both run off the same pump.

The plumbing is already there and there would only be 1 valve in the live well. The valve has a hose connection already on the end of it. All I want to do is replace the livewell pump with a new higher pressure washdown pump.

Yes it is doable, BUT, there may be some issues. I just replaced the washdown/livewell pump on a friends 2006 Key West 19’ Bay Boat and it was an ordeal, Because of the location in the bilge and the tiny access hatch in the splash well directly in front of the motor, it was almost torture to get at. YOU COULDN’T SEE INSIDE SO EVERYTHING WAS DONE BY TOUCH. The washdown/livewell pump is mounted on four rubber feet on the side of the boat - not on the transom, It took 2 of us nearly 5 hours to get it mounted. It was a Jabsco pump.

So my advice is to carefully check out the location and access before starting. If you cannot clearly see what you are doing AND if you don’t have EASY ACCESS reconsider.

Make sure its not to low in the bilge
They can’t take getting wet
Also, they can’t be above the waterline or the don’t prime well
