I got a Key West. My livewell fills by spraying the water down on top of the water already in the well. This probably add to the bubbles that end up on the surface too.
I fished on a Pathfinder the other day and noticed the water comes in below the water line of the livewell and is angled to promote circulation.
I noticed my menhaden seemed to lose their silver (fresh) look fairly quickly the other day, coming out more yellowish. None died just did not look too fresh to me. Some red noses too.
Seems like the PF way could be better…better circulation, flush out the trash (my standpipe drains the water off the top which in my config is the freshest water).
I’ve noticed some red noses in my Haddens as well. What causes that? Lack of oxygen? My pump runs non-stop while I have Haddens in the livewell (any other bait as well).

i have an elbow about mid way down my livewell that keeps a constant current so they have to swim. seems to work pretty darn good. ill post up some pics later
I have a portable one of these I use for herring in freshwater. I turned it on and it seemed to add to the foam problem. Which maybe is not a problem. It definitely helps with air and circulation. May not even need to run the LW aerator full time with this as it circulates and add O2. Though I imagine that water gets hot in the summer without adding new water.
I’d like to see that picture Cordray.
Rednose is from banging into the corners usually. Though mine does not have corners. I think mine is cuased by not having good circular flow of water and thus allowing them swim into the sides of the tank. Circulation forces them to school up and face one direction…or at least its supposed to.
red nose=stressed, prob better to fill from the bottom and empty the top best and second the other way round. worse is fill top and drain top. some info here http://www.arkansasstripers.com/bait_tanks.htm
Mine fills and drains from the top, but their is a valve where the water enters the tank that is adjustable and can be pointed in any direction. If i point it at an angle, it will circulate the water counter-clockwise around the tank. This also aids in aerating the water.
