I need some help. I have a 42 gallon livewell in the transom of my Cape Horn 24OS center console. It is supplied by a 3/4" thru hull fitting. The pump is a Rule 1100gph livewell pump. When I turn the pump on nothing happens, no water but the pump is running. I can release the motor from the housing and water instantly comes up. Put it back in place and it pumps fine. The same thing happens when the boat is at cruise. It is getting air locked but I don’t know what to do to fix the problem?

I just want 1 dollar more than I can spend!
There is a valve in the livewell, but it is open. As soon as I release the pump from the housing, the water comes rushing up the pipe. I put the motor back on and turn the switch on and it pumps fine. I am confused because this should be self priming because of the weight of the boat.

definately sounds like an air lock.
what kind of pick up do you have?
is it in the transom, or in the bottom of the hull with a strainer/scoop over it?
