The next Lowcountry Kayak Anglers ‘Meet and Greet’ will be this Saturday, June 28th at 8:00 AM, on Sullivans Island at Station 22…on the beach!
We will be out there, practicing our surf launches and landings, as well as going out as a group to practice self-rescues. Should be a fun time. The waves along that stretch of beach are in the 1-2’ range.
If you have a desire to fish beyond the breakers one day, this would be a good time to see how your rig will surf, minus your expensive gear and tackle. I learned this lesson the hard way a couple years ago, when I flipped my kayak on a surf landing - losing some gear and ruining a couple of reels too. Also will be a great time to practice self-rescues, too - in a group setting.
All are invited to come out and join us. Dress to swim…bring your kayak, paddle, PFD/whistle. A cart would be good to have for the portage from the street to the beach. I’ll be bringing a cooler with ice and water.
Hope to see you there…

This sounds like fun. I’ll show you guys how to turtle and break rudder pins. All jokes aside, this is a necessary skill. It is much better to find out you have trouble trying to self rescue nearshore with buddies than 3 miles out all alone. Thank you Lewis for putting this together.

We had a great turnout for this…Everyone got to learn a few things about waves, and launching and landing their kayaks in the surf. Our thanks to Bob Hathcock for coming down to the lowcountry to share his knowledge with us. The group also went out beyond the breakers and did self-rescues together. It was a fun time!

Thanks for putting this together Lewis. I learned a great deal and I’m glad I was able to find out I can get back in my boat with others around rather than figure out that I can’t when I’m out fishing alone. Looking forward to the next meet up.

Elgeebee - you are doing a great job with the LKA club. That kind of event builds lasting friendships and keeps people safe. It’s all good. Keep up the great work!
