LKN report

Got out for an evening trip to the dam area. Trolled down the east side of the channel, nodda. Headed across the channel to deep water and bang.

Reset then bang, bang.

Headed up the west side of the channel and bang, bang again.

Not bad for two hours of fishing on LKN.

Please excuse my ignorance, but what/where is LKN? Thanks.

Lake Norman, Charlotte

Nice! Is it common there to pick up a catfish trolling?

Yep, usually on the deeper rods. There’s some big kitty’s too.

Hey Happybob, you still doing aluminum work. I’d like a “across the transom” rod rack that I can slip in and out of my rear gunnel mounted rodholders with 5 or so holders going off the back for striper or crappie fishing. PM me if you can you hook me up or tell me if it’s a bad idea.

Striperskiff–thanks for the info.

Tunanut–PM sent.

Little Tuna’s not so little anymore. Great job!

No he’s not, they grow up real fast. I’m thrilled the boy still wants to go fishing with his dad even if it just a couple hours on a hot summer night.

Wow, we have always called Lake Norman the dead sea. It must be doing a lot better these days. I remeber several big striper tournaments up there where if you could catch a 5 pounder you would place pretty high.

Dumb question,I saw the bait tank in the pictures. Were you slow trolling live baits or pulling lures?

Norman is a very tough lake to fish. Live bait is key for stripers in the summer. Keeping them alive in the heat can be a challenge w/o a good insulated bait tank. 2 litre bottles of frozen water help. Our summer rules started July 1 also, first four fish are keepers.

By live bait I assume you mean blue backs? Do you catch them yourself, I never have known anywhere that sold them like they do on the SC lakes.

Herring or shad is best. Midway bait on 150 between Mooresville and Denver usually have a supply. Be prepared to pay about a buck/piece and keep them cold, they don’t like the heat.

Gret to know. I didn’t know anyone in NC sold herring. I have always gone out before daylight and netted my own when fishing in NC.
