lms 332c?

Anyone here had one or used one? Pro’s? Cons? Thanks.

I have had a 320, which was basically the black and white screen version of the 332C. Also had the Eagle version of the 332C. Was pleased with both for what they are.

Only con is not really a fair one. It is not a bluewater sounder. This shouldn’t be any surprise because the thing cost only $500 for the complete package when it was brand new I think.

The GPS antenna, if you have the external antenna version, is more reliable on this model than the next model they put out from the 332, which I believe was the 500 series. The older antenna and network of the 332 is better to have than the newer units unless you go into the new HDS line as they have a different antenna as well.

The 332 can run a dual frequency transducer. Yours may have one. However, they are very low power. The 50mHz frequency doesn’t do much for getting anything in deeper water. It gives you a bigger bottom cone to be seeing as you’re cruising, and that’s about all. I ran it on 200 frequency 99% of the time to get a pinpoint view with all the thing’s power focused in one place.

The unit itself has a low RMS tx wattage for the sonar. Good enough to fish out to 150ish feet, but nothing too serious. What I mean is that you can find fish, but as far as seeing individual fish in a school of fish, you’re going to lose that around 60-70ft. Better than anything else you can get in that price range and age though…

This unit is the GPS capability equivalent to my lowrance handheld that I have put many hours on when running other people’s boats. Still going strong, and it does great for me.

If you have problems, you cannot get the unit replaced, fixed, etc. What lowrance has done with these discontinued units that I’ve gotten hold of before is send a rebate coupon for a discount on a new unit purchase. Also, the eagle counterpart that was sold around the same time had a lower screen resolution but was the same thing for all intents and purposes. 5" screen but the 332C is 480x480 resolution and 256 color. The only difference between

Wow…great info. Thanks man. Found one that is used for $250 plus around 20 shipping… any thoughts on the price?

I’d say it just depends on which transducer it’s got with it. See if you can get a serial number if they guy doesn’t have the original box. Can also tell which one it’s got if he’s got it hooked up still. If it’s dual frequency, it will let you switch between 50 and 200 in the sonar options. Find out the dimensions of the transducer itself or get a pic with a quarter or something beside it for size reference, and I can tell you which ducer it probably is. There’s a smaller dual frequency ducer that looks like the single frequency version. Also a larger dual frequency, that is obviously the better one to have. The RMS power the smaller ones use is less than 100W, while the larger one is near 200W I believe. The difference in those two transducers is descernable in my experience fishing for typical bottom fish. So that’s worth considering.

Can always buy the better transducer separately to hook up to the 320C if you want. They still make the ducers with different connectors.

I passed on it. I think I’m going to go with seperate units. Thanks so much for the info though! Great stuff
