Has anybody tried loading the file from DNR’s site. It is supposed to have the coordinates for all of the reefs, wrecks off of S.C. I see where you pick your brand plotter for the right file format then load it on a micro SD. I’m wondering how it shows up, does it have all of the numbers with label/description of all of the individual pieces on each reef like the book? And maybe more important will it wipe my numbers already in my plotter? I have an older Lowrance Elite 5 DSI
I loaded them years ago in a Hummingbird 597.
They load with the exact text that is on the website map. No description other than that. Example, all the reefs show as PA##. Edisto Offshore Reef I think is PA36, all the piles of stuff are shown as PA36. I went back and changed the little icons on my finder screen to resemble what’s down there. A little ship for a sunken barge or a little bridge for bridge rubble. It is much easier than fat fingering all the points and possibly getting some wrong.
I’m installing a new unit in my boat now and will use the DNR files again.
Thanks RDW, I’m about to load the file . I know what you mean about the “fat fingering” them, it would take me ten years to load all of that. I am going to dump all of my numbers to a card and save them in case it over writes them or something. I like the idea of going back and editing the labels on the downloads.
The DNR files available for various brand multifunction displays doesn’t include all of the waypoints for most artificial reefs.
Lots of stuff has been added since the files were created and they haven’t been updated.
I took the time to select only the reefs I’m fishing and made sure I got the most current blue DNR book.
I then loaded each group/reef manually. It takes time but when you’re out there trying to find structure it’s a major advantage
If you have a MFD with a touchscreen it’s not that hard.
Afish I noticed the last update was 2012. That will at least save me some typing. I will go back and add the extras on the ones I need, mostly Charleston and Edisto Is. areas. Also heading to MI next week for a week of vaca. Thanks for the info and advice.
