went out again aboard yellow fever with john and his boy david and james c. only planned two shallow dives because of iffy weather, which could not have been better. frist dive only produced afew good bottom fish and the viz was only about 10’. saw a few ars and the grouper were very skiddish. decided to try much shallower as we didn’t have time to go out past the 70’ we were in. hit a ledge on the way in were we shot a 17.5lb sheep this fall and we struck gold. ended up with 7 good grouper, biggest weighed in at 18lbs. the boy with no shirt is from Mt.P and says he is good looking, I don’t know about that but he did put in on me and john with the two biggest fish, john picked up three lobsters on this 65" dive. ride in a 40kts, great day with pretty boy and the johns island bug snatchers
bonzo, go back through the archives(bug catcher)and there is a pic with Zack Petters holding that 17.5 sheep along with a bunch of grouper and lobster we caught that day. It was in late oct or nov last fall.
S4G. we have not been seeing many groupers in 70’ or less latley, not sure because of the cooler bottom temp, there has been a nasty thermo at about 60’ the last few weeks, or because the silt has been awfull from about 60’ down, bad viz the last couple weeks from 70’ out to 100’. rusty hook,I have not seen many lobsters in less then 100’, Im sure they are around, I just havn’t seen any. the ones we had the other day were legal, just not the 8/10lbs we usually catch out in 100’. I haven’t seen many of my hero keyboard capt’s posting about fishing or diving lately, we just have to go with my reports untill some of the pros can get out on thoes flat days.
AMEN to bad vis. We hit Comanche and the Garden a couple of weeks ago and could not see the bottom when I hit it. If your anchor didn’t hit Comanche, you couldn’t find it.
