Local guys with nets (money making idea)

If you have a big net(say 10-12 foot) and can spread it consistently someone might consider hiring you to throw for them.
You could post here in the employment section.
Bet there would be more full coolers!

The problem ain’t throwing the net - the problem is throwing the net in the right place.

How about a guy with a 6 ft net that works 2X as hard? What is the hourly pay, is health insurance provided, etc!

I’m pretty sure most people on here realize it can be cheaper and easier to go over to shem creek with an empty cooler and buy em right off the boat head on. I think for most of us Shrimp baiting season’s not just about the shrimp as it is about the experience and enjoyment of doing it… I can’t imagine paying somebody to throw the net when there are plenty of folks that will do it for free just to get out on the water and “Maybe” get 1/2 a cooler of shrimp in the bargain!

True!!THE PLEASURE IS DOING IT YOURSELF(FOR MOST)…Several years back we took a mexican with us that lived on my farm…Man you talk about throwing a net perfect every time and so easy for him!he was working construction but was a fisherman in Mexico…Just helped out on the farm for free rent…He just bunched it up in both hands and seemed to just push the net out there…perfect circles every time!

A six foot net spread perfectly covers 113 square feet… A 12 foot net covers 452 square feet…So you would have to work at least 4 times as hard…The larger area would also reduce the number of “escapees” per throw.
As far as the pay goes???probably best to just work for tips and no benefits…

Oh yes, RY, there’s also been an added pleasure this year: fussing on the forum! Thanks to a couple of guys we’ve at least had some posts, though I guess I’d prefer more were about SHRIMP being caught.

I can throw pretty well. Pay would be a 1/3 share of shrimp and a couple of cold beers… Any takers?

If you can put me on the shrimp then absolutely!

The problem to me is not the size of the net, but the weight of the net. Circumference is PI * Dia. Therefore a 12’ net is 75’ and a 6’ net is 37’. Consequently, for the same size weights that 12’ net is twice as heavy. Just lifting and swinging can put a huge load on your shoulder, back, and neck.

I have an 8’ and 6’ net. I can throw the 6’ all day long and the 8’ is hard on me. I just am not as strong as I was as a kid. But still, hurting your back is something anyone with chronic back pain will tell you is something they wish they never have hurt.

A dentist I know told me that he puts wisdom tooth patients on advil 2 days before the surgery and they recover significantly better than those not taking advil prior to the surgery. I have found that my aches and pains are significantly less if I take advil a day before doing strenuous activities I don’t do every day.

Probably true Coastal…but a 500mg vicodin and 2 shots of Crown afterwards has the same effect!

Ill throw my ten footer all day and help out w gas for a third of the shrimp and some cold beers!

We were next to a fella who had a 12 foot net 2 weeks ago…they started comming in and speed shrimper here with her wittle 7ft net starts to feel the rush…game on…I had completely made a 8 pole run and started back to the first pole and he was sitting taking a break again. The bigger nets take time, weight to pull in…may be great if you are in a bigger boat…If you have a big ole Carolina boy on the front of the boat with big tricepts, delts and bicepts you may be on to something… (note to self…bring binoculars and look for guy throwing a 12 ft net… easy girl you may go blind)

Are you saying there’s something wrong with my gear? hahaha I can open a 6’ net great right beside the boat, but I’m not sure if being so close to the pole/bait scares them off? Maybe I need to work on my casting to them from a distance instead of on top of them beside the boat?

yes and sometimes all that circumference still makes you wonder how long it takes to cooler off. I agree most of the time it is the place, water clarity, tide, wind , runnin over bait, etc etc etc this and that

That’s pretty poor math…
