Local help

I am a avid outdoorsman and grew up hunting and fishing in the PeeDee. I now live in james island and just bought a boat and I am in great need of some help catching some fish. I can trade gigging trips, duck hunting trips, pleasure cruises for you and the gf or wife. You name it. If you know your fish and how to catch anytime I will trade that education and the spot close to my landing at the firestation on elliots cut down from the crab house on folly rd for yard work or anything. Im truly interested in learning and quickly and will pay in however way I can afford.

I have most all the gear needed to fish the area. Just need help finding where the bait needs to hit the water and when. I live five minutes from the firehouse station landing on elliots cut and want to make this my go to landing when sneaking out after work.

I am looking for two things. One someone who would like to go out on the boat one evening this week or next after work to show me a spot or two and catch a fish.

Or a gracious individual who would like to message or email me and say go left out the landing, left out the cut, up 1 mile you will see a stream on the left that says fish here in bright orange, throw this bait this tide this way and by that balloon and then the fish will just jump in the boat. You know the dumbies for fishing explanation…

There is no better substitute for time on the water. I suggest carving out a manageable area and learning it well. The lessons learned there can lead to success in other areas. Tough to find somebody to show you spots, but when you find your own spots the reward is greater.

I totally agree and I have been. But I was previously kayak bound so I did just that… but only around the pitt st bridge area. I also have a spot out on folly I found for flounder fishing.

I obviously am doing that search on my own here around the Elliot cut area. But I figured it would be much easier and enjoyable to maybe meet a new friend and learn how he makes his wheel around here verses trying to reinvent the wheel on my own if you get what im saying. Its a little quicker and Im not dead weight, I can trade my giging spots or flounder fishing spots or hunts or yard work or about anything. Im a barter kind of man

I don’t know your water (Apart from docking at the crab shack to eat and grab some occasional bait in the creek on my way back from lunch!) so can’t help you much, but looked at google earth for the area. There is a creek right there that I would get to know every inch of. Looks like it has some deeper docks and structure at the 2 mouths and plenty of potential area’s in between.

When I was in your same situation I spent some time not fishing, just driving around at different tides and seeing where others were fishing, marking oyster beds, checking for tailing reds in the flats, checking out structure at low tide for oysters, marking flats and dips that look like good ambush spots coming out of the grass etc. etc. etc.

I’d gladly take you around where I fish and show you what my “Go to” spots look like. You should also try posting in the “Fishing Match-up” thread. The guy I go Shrimp baiting with I met by posting there and has been a great match-up.

Cruise around slowly during the bottom half of the tide stage when the bait will be out of the grass. Look for bait. When you see schools of bait, fish the areas around them. Where there is bait, there are fish trying to eat them.

Look on Google maps for for creeks off of the main river. I like to look for creeks spilling into the river with lots of other feeder creeks spilling into those creeks. Longer creeks off of the main river often hold lots of bait and fish.

Beat the grass line on the main river and when you catch a fish, make a note of that spot.

Fish around structure.

If you’re not catching anything in an area, crank up the big motor and move.

What’s the fun in asking for somebody else’s spots? You’ll find it much more rewarding to find your own spots. Trust me on that note.

Good luck.

Pen, I don’t care what they say about you. You ain’t half bad

That was so much helpful info! Thanks so much. I hear all about you from others and of course follow your crabbing adventures. You just did me a huge service. If there is anyway I can ever help y’all Or if your old man ever needs a hand with the pots or something(though i’m sure at his age he can still run many laps around me) I will be happy to come give a little back. Thanks again Pen. I will let you know how it goes.

No thanks needed… and if you want to do something for me…take someone fishing one day who has never been…or who hasn’t been in a while…or thank a soldier when you see them…big hand shake, smile and “thanks for all you do”. So many folks on here have showed me so much kindness…I try to pay it forward ;). Let me ow how you do…or if you have any questions about what I told you :).

When can you get out? Are you strictly a weekend warrior? Or can you get out during the week?
