Long Legged Gobblers

Well my oldest daughter (7) and I went into the the turkey woods Saturday morning with another crack at the chicken made of thunder but little did we know that we were going to be doing some extreme cardio on this hunt. Birds sounded off at 6:30 a.m. right on cue and hit the dirt at 6:35 a.m. We realized that these birds once again were doing the unexpected so we jumped up and started trying to get ahead of the hens leading the pack. 1 mile later and several close encounters we finally got ahead of them by 9:00 a.m. I know the people reading this is probably going that’s child’s play. As a father, that means I tote everything while trying to belly crawl, crouch and walk, and all the other stealth tactics that come with this scenario and sill keep the birds from busting us is no easy task. Face masks keep us covered but I sometimes don’t think they do the job good enough because a kid smiling behind that camo is almost bright as the reflection of a mirror! But this hunt still left a tag unfilled but the fact that the one hen that was on top of us the whole time at 15 yards kept the longbeards safe from harms way at 40 yards! Great hunt for us and one more memory put in my storage file.
