Long overdue Copahee Revenge Trip

I am thinking of fishing Copahee Saturday morning but it has been a while since I wen tout there. I know about watching the tides but my problem last time I was out there was snagging my line every time I cast. I got snagged more times than I care to admit and to add salt to the wound I also got skunked. At least it is beautiful out there and on that trip i saw a bald eagle. That being said this is the trip where I get my revenge on the Copahee. What I am looking for is on rigging. I was thinking of starting with cut bait because the last few times I have gone out the live bait in the water seems to be a little low, so I don’t want to rely on that in case it is not there. And also I lack the talent to work artificial bait so I can’t rely on that for my revenge trip. Thanks for any help about the rigging and another advice in general.

I’ve had luck fishing live bait under a popping cork out there for trout, and reds against the grass. Cut bait on the bottom on a carolina rig is good too.

I’d join you this weekend but I’m on call at work and have to stay local. Next weekend, I’m down for fishing all weekend. I think in case you get a bite I’ve heard there are a lot of oyster beds out there and if the fish pull you in it’s hasta la vista baby, so bring a stout rod with fairly heavy line is my guess.

The big issue at Copahee is oysters everywhere. You knew that already. To make my life a little easier I fish as light a weight as possible. I’ve got 20 lb braid, 15 or 20 lb fluoro leader, and only 1 or 2 split shot for weight. I still get hung up a good bit.

The area right next to the grass has the fewest oysters and reds hang tight to the grass most of the time.
Trout will be in deeper moving water for the most part. paddle out in the main creek channel and fish feeder creek mouths, oyster rakes and points.

go small on hooks 2/0 works great on reds and trout
