Made the decision on Thursday not to fish this weekend with the forecast going back and forth and the narrow window. Then I got a call from a friend Friday night around 6pm and decided to suck it up and make the run. Took a father and son who had never been offshore and have been dying to go since last year. Got the boat and tackle ready and managed to get 1.5hrs sleep. Ride out wasn’t terrible other than the 6-7ft wake (at least it felt like it) at 3:30am. Put lines in 600ft and managed to out a 20lb Mahi on for friend’s first. His son got sea sick and didn’t want to fish the first couple hours but made a nice recovery to catch a few fish. Wind picked up around 11:30am and we were about 65miles out so decided to pick up and head home. It had been awhile since I got my butt kicked and definitely feel it a little today. Last 25miles followed a friend in behind his 36ft Contender which made it much easier. Overall a good trip. Only caught 7 Mahi and lost 3-4. Don’t know if my friend and his son will go again but promised them the ride home is not always that bad.
Great job finding the fish. So glad you guys got out and back safe.
