The sign should read
“CAUTION”
I watched 4 coyotes totally devour a 110lb deer in less than 3 hours. Did a better job than a few dozen buzzards. No bones or fur left.
they are around, have seen a few over the past 25 years behind my house along the tree line, we measured the tracks the last time theym were 5 inches across. the neighbors dog had something treed that morning, it was never seen again, that is the dog. I live in southern Greenville county. hope nobody shoots it
Dark Brown, was bringing up a new cell site off hwy 21. Never seen one since. Uncle used to manage Bluff plantation and said he had two sightings, both brown. I know what I saw, and I will take my Uncle’s word to the grave. South Florida is not that far from us.
I sure hope that DNR or any other organization doesn’t try to restore the eastern cougar, to little land and too many people.
Several years ago, there was a big whizzing contest one here over whether or not puma-cougar-panthers still live around here. Several nay-sayers mocked those of us who’ve seen them or who had friend who had. Some folks don’t like to believe what they haven’t seen for themselves.
I live on Johns Island. My sister lived two blocks from me until recently. About 7-10 years ago, she told me that she saw a cat the color of a deer, the size of a german shepherd, with a long tail in the back yard one day. Her back yard borders the marsh on the Stono River. She said that she called the DNR and was told that they get the occasional sighting report from our area.
Another friend of mine–who knows exactly what these cats look like because he has raised them as pets before–told me that he saw a black on one Bohicket Road many years back.
I’ve never seen one in the wild myself, but I enjoyed playing with the one my friend raised as a pet. That thing was a trip. Dangerous kitty.
I did see a very large black bear about 5 or so years ago in the Francis Marion forest, down HWY 41, near Boggy Head gun range. It was on Little Hell Hole Road. It ran right out in front of me and then ran along the side of the road, only yards from my truck. I got a really good look at it. I drove along behind it as it ran along the road for about 50-100 feet or so before dodging back into the woods. I had always heard that an occasional black bear ventures this far south in our state, but until then, I was never quite sure. Now I am. The best part of the story is that the bear was fat and healthy looking.
Gotcha Covered,

I saw a “yellow dog” a dingo off I-26 MT Pleasant about 8 years ago.
Strangest wildlife encounter I’ve had (nothing to do with panther sitings) About the size of an average grey fox with a tail curled up over his back. The most catlike motion of any dog I’ve ever witnessed.
Saw a “chupacabra” cross 61 by Magnolia P. a few years back (Twice!)
Nasty. Ask Andy P. about that one. He saw it too!
I too have seen questionable things in the woods…BUt here is my problem with the whole argument.
Think of all of the Trail cams out there! I mean I have four out myself. There must be thousands of them. And not one cougar pic? Makes no sense to me. Now we have the blackout cameras too! Still no cougar pics! However I have many friends who swear they have seen them.
I grew up in Fairfield County and have heard they are there. One police officer told me he saw two big black cats on the side of the road late one night. I’ve lived in Horry County since 04 and haven’t heard any talk of them around here, just bob cats. Anyone think they are in Horry?
OK it’s that time of year again… lots of hunters in the woods early and late… Has anyone seen a big cat this year ? If so share your story. Also share it on our panther sighting page on facebook… www.facebook.com/groups/7907146560957920/
Thanks later catman
