do a rebuild with a Hydrotec Phase kit.
I did it to a Yam 90 and it ran like a beast, for awhile …
Problem with my engine was the connection between engine and mount where it swivels. It is eaten away and seized up. You can barely turn the engine with your foot pushing on it. Engine has to be mostly diassembled to get to the parts. Quoted at $3K. I bit the bullet and am putting a new 70 Yam 4 stroke on it. I love the boat so why not. I saw a couple of sweet 90hp units for sale, but they were still 10 or more years old and no warranty.

You did the right thing! Good luck, enjoy.
i could never advocate under powering a boat
Why would you think it is underpowered? The 90hp 4 stroke weighs 115 more and nearly that much over the one it is replacing. The 70hp is less weight than the old 90hp 2 stroke. I read tests on comparable size and weight boats as my Hewes and the boats all performed very well.

I have many hours in old redfishers (and bonefishers). Great boats… Enjoy !
