Looking for 8/9 weight reel

Anybody have an 8/9 reel they would like to sell?

I’ve got an Orvis Battenkill IV mid arbor that I’m not using. It’s been used probably a total of 15 times, and is in really good condition. It’s fully loaded with backing and 8wt saltwater flyline already. Not sure what a fair price would be. Say $125?? Somebody tell me if that’s too much.

a new battenkill is usually about $130-$150… a cheap 8wt line is about $70 and theres backing on there so… $125 for a batenkill loaded for $125… yeah good deal. That is if ya like orvis

Ken…what’s your favorite 8 wt reel for a beginner/novice/intermediate? Something that’s not going to bust the budget to the point it makes the wife mad, but will do the job?

Personally I LOVE the Okuma SLV series. It is by far not the all time best reel but it has a SOLID “stop-a-truck” drag and is only about $60… I have been fishing a few of them HARD in the salt for a few years now and they are still kicking like new. I have one I have been purposefully neglecting, not rinsing or really taking care of for the last year and it’s still running like new… It’s not a Natulis or an Abel or Tibor but for $60 ya can’t beat them with a stick. I have a few of them so if anyone would like to check one out stop by the summerville charleton angler any day except Mon or Wed and I’ll show ya my toys  Oh yeah… I can order them fo ya too

Come on man. You can't do that. Thats like not feeding the family pet. You have to rinse your fly reels. That's just being mean.

What is the guarantee on the Ohuma reels, by the way? Not that I need one. I rinse MY reels.

Oh don’t get me wrong, I rinse my reels EVERYTIME I use them, fresh or salt but I have decided to see how long I can go and abuse the s*** out of one to see how it holds up. So far a year and counting being pretty abused and it still kicks like new… I am not an Okuma rep or have any affiliation with them and the Charleston Angler does not carry them ( we can special order the SLV and Casacdes) so this is totally my opinion of the reels. Like I said they are not the end all be all but for $60 this is a bullit proof work horse with a solid drag. I am not 100% sure about the warrantee, I am guessing a normal 1 year but honestly for $60 as long as it lasts more then a couple years it’s still gonna take a bit of time before I have to bu enough to have gotten a nautilus or an Abel… I wanna fish now and I don’t have $400-$900 to throw at a fly reel at one shot. If I had the $$ I would but since I doubt I ever will this is the perfect solution for me.
