Any suggestions on where to look for a good used boat to get me offshore? Wanting something to get me to the 90’ level with twin engines. I’m looking around on boat trader boats.com and Craig’s list. I’m looking at some Grady whites in the 20-24’ range. I’ve only got about 10k to spend. Want b ready to buy for a few months. Just doing research now. Thx for any info…
either bump the money up or the boat down, you will have better success:face_with_head_bandage:

Yeah I’m kinda seeing that there’s not much around this area for that price. But I see several down in Fl that are in my range. Just gonna keep looking around for awhile. Not really gonna buy till this winter.
You aren’t likely to find an 20-24’ boat in good condition for 10K. Sorry. You can get a substantially smaller good boat, or a piece of junk, but that’s an unrealistic expectation.

Yeah I’m seeing that. Maybe I’ll sweet talk mama for some more change.
You just missed a nice Grady walk around on Craigslist. 24 foot with twin 150 mercury efi’s for 9500. You’ll find something but one like that is rare to come by.
there was on old twin engine grady for sell on Johns island for a long time. off of maybank on the right as you are headed away from James Island. think it was under 10 g.

I see a lot of Gradys for around 10k. I think I saw that one on Craig’s list the other day. Right now I’m just looking to see what’s available and for how much. The longer I wait the more money I’ll have anyway.
Any Grady you find for 10K will probably have a rotted transom, deck and stringers. Fuel tank will probably need replacing too. If you go that route pay a marine surveyor or someone who knows boats $250 and get an informed opinion. It can save you thousands:wink:
I recently replaced a fuel tank in a 10 year old Grady. The deck above it was rotten, had to remove the T-top, cut the center console off the deck, cut out a lot of rotted wood, dig out a lot of waterlogged foam, replaced every hose and fitting and wire in the boat, replaced the tank, then rebuilt the deck, re-glass the console, rewire everything in it, fair and paint it, re-install the T-top…it was a $7K job. Be real careful with used boats 10 years old, or get some help.

Capt. Larry thanks for the info. I’ll absolutely take someone with me when it’s time. I may just wait till I have more money also. Thanks for all the feed back fellows.
What larry said is very true. Grady’s are pretty expensive boats and to see one for 10g’s screams problems, in other words $$$$$. If i were you, id look at mid tier boats instead of gradys if the budget was 10 to 15k.

Big boat offshore equals a long boat drive, lots of gas especially for an older 2 stroke, double that for twins, and then double that to make it back to land. And that doesn’t even consider towing coverage, survival raft, emergency beacon, etc when things go wrong.
I won’t catch a tuna or grouper at the jetties or near-shore reefs, but I am happy with the action I do get fishing near-shore, and it doesn’t get as rough, expensive or dangerous as offshore fishing.
About 10 years ago my fishing and boating desires were about the same as yours, mine changed after some realization of what I was getting into.
Good luck with your search and adventures.
I’ve fished offshore charleston from 1977 to 2004. Had to give up the boat back in 04 when my father passed away. My father fished any where from charleston to singer island fl. I haven’t been offshore since he passed in 04 and it’s about to drive me nuts to get back out there. I just may wait awhile longer and settle my ego down. My father taught me a lot over the years we fished together and one of them was to respect the ocean and never get In a hurry when dealing with offshore. I believe I might just go get me a small lake boat or bass boat for now and just wait for the right time to get back into offshore.
Thanks for all the replies and info. Maybe I’ll just catch a ride with some folks on here in the near future.
Or look in the match up section to feed the urge…its cheaper…
Or I could just win the lottery.
or you could get you 10 or 15 illegals, they come with 6000 bucks a piece[:0]
