Looking for a Ed-u-Kation, LR.

Goozman (I read you’re Out of Commission) and Others that fish LR Inlet & ICW… I’m needing some help with Reds and Trout. This being my first year fishing here the learning curve can be tough.

The past two evening we’ve fished the Jetties and had some fun with Ribbon fish but that’s it. Monday and Tuesday we’ve seen the large schools of Mullet in and around the Inlet. Have beat a couple of banks in the ICW where we saw bait being chased but no bites.

Ideas on Inshore Charters or?

I have a 13’ Whaler that stays in the water.

Also. If you fish this area do you go in to NC? We (my fishing pal) has discussed getting NC licenses.

Your Input Appreciated.

Mike

If you want Reds then starting very soon the big boys will be stacked at the mouth of the jetties.I fish an incoming using cut mullet, menhaden on the bottom with a circle hook.Just drift in with the tide.Trout will be around the rocks as the water cools, artificials do well as does live shrimp. We also start catching trout in the harbor starting in Oct.as well as the waterway from the ramp all the way out to the shellbank just before the Calabash river.Hope this helps.

You already probably know as much as I do, but one thing I think is prudent is to have a license in NC as well as SC. We fish so close to the line sometimes, it’s just safe to be covered in both states. That way, you can fish wherever you choose. If you want to do a charter, Capt. Patrick Kelly at

www.captainsmileyfishingcharters.com/ fishes all over the area.

Good luck to ya!

I will tell you to look up inside Tillman! Find shell banks and bars next to some deeper water where a lot of bait is. Look at some of the feeder creeks. I ain’t tellin you everything, but once you find some, you will see what I mean. I caught all 5 of the trout this year up in tillman. I have wore the flounder, reds and did well with trout comparativly speaking all off of one shell bank up there this year. So, look around tillman and the best tides are 2 hours of falling to halfway up on the incoming. Best baits have been finger mullet. Match the hatch.

Oh yeah, use carolina rigs with 15-18" leaders and a 2/0 khale hook, or clacker floats with 8-10" of leader with a 1/4 oz. jig head in white or red.

I had a call in Cherry Grove (I’m an AC Contractor) Thursday and looking out over the Ocean it was “Lake Myrtle”. Around 3:00 pm I headed to the Bote and ran out to the South Jetty (outside). Started out with a white grub that promptly lost it’s tail and after loosing a couple of jigs I switched over to a Gulp scrimp and promptly hooked an Ugly Azz Toad Fish. About 4:30 or 5:00 two more botes showed up (anyone here?) and I took note of what they were doing. I didn’t see anyone catch anything. About 6:00 pm I decided to hit the creek and had a couple more Grub tails ripped off but nothing to set the hook on. Coming in I stopped just past the #4 ICW marker to drag the Scrimp Gulp again and my phone rang with a No Cooling Call so I came in.

Score, 1 Toad Fish
0 Reds
0 Trout
0 Ribbon Fish

I did buy the “Reds!” book. Need to put it in the library. Thanks to all who replied.

At least you got to fish. Better than working and dreaming about fishing.

Did you get the Red book advertised in the Sportsman magazine? Was there any useful information in it?

Wish you better luck next time.

Here’s the book I got.

Aw heck with that book. It’s more fun to find em on your own. That’s what I did, anyways.
