Im looking into a new boat.Since I moved to a lake but also fish the coast. When the family goes it needs to be somewhat comfy. So looking at an 18-20 center console/bay type boat. Cant afford a Grady, looked a bit at Scout and Parker. But also interested in a Pioneer and maybe a Nautic star. Anyone have good or bad luck with these ? Or any other suggestions. I had a 2010 SeaHunt 22 Triton and loved it overall but just seeing what folks think?
Key West 196 Bay Reef is a nice boat.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

i don t know how far you are from georgetown, sc, but the BOAT SHED there carries all four of the brand names that you mentioned and you won t get a better price or service from this family owned dealership
they also do a great job selling your current boat too. good luck.
I think my 20’ Nautic Star rode better than my 23’ Polar. Fit and finish is probably going to be better on the Pioneer or Scouts but I can say that the Nautic Star I had was a great riding boat.
I just bought a Pioneer 175 baysport. It really is a great boat for inshore and nearshore fishing. I have taken it 20 miles offshore to kingfish and can get through Jones Creek at dead low tide.
This thing looks decked out with cover, cushions, low hours and clean.
I like the Carolina Skiff DLV. They’re very versatile and fuel efficient from what I’ve read.
I love my Pioneer 197 SF, especially the layout, construction details, and bait tank. I believe Pioneer is a cut above (build quality, resell, etc.) many of the other brands in that price range, and would not pay the difference for “top tier” brands. It’s hard for me to justify paying twice as much for boat with same motor.
But it’s also a Ford-Chevy question and others will have their perspectives.

thanks for all the input. I will definitely be looking hard at the pioneer when I get back down that way. The closest dealer to me if I go new would be about 100 miles so that could break the deal but then again my last Yamaha never went in the shop except for a yearly maintenance
What lake did you move to? I am sure their will be a Yamaha dealer within 5 miles of that lake. Plus Pioneer is off I95 so warranty issues with the boat would go there, not back to the dealer on the coast.
You could buy a new Pioneer 222 with a 250 Yamaha for the price of that used 22 bay boat with a 200. I like the boats RM has, but their prices seem to be out there.

Pioneer has a decent price on their boats but they aren’t that good.

I think you will have to add another $20,000 to that used boat price to get a new Pioneer 222. At least that was what mine cost at the boat show a year ago. But I do love it and for its size, best off shore fishing layout you will find.

jsadler, come check out the Sea Hunt Bx series here at seels in west ashley. I would love to help you out and have you take a look at these boats. Great fishing layout, enough seating for the family, bow cushion option, two insulated livewells, tons of storage, trim tabs. Come check them out.

This is optioned out at that price. Take it down to standard hull color, swim platform, spreader lights, radio box, bow cushions, etc. and it gets a lot closer to that used 2013 price.

I live on Lake Anna in Central Va. I have a townhouse in Murrells Inlet and love it there but cant retire anytime soon so stuck in Va for the next 10 years. I do come down there a lot except for this year because of the new house build here. A friend does have a DLV Carolina skiff and its definitely a good stable platform with tons of room
