I take my two boys and father on a fishing trip once a year to try something new other than striper fishing. Next on the list is a trip to Santee for a catfish fishing trip. We will need a guide with a pontoon boat. Does anyone have any good suggestions for a guide in that area? As I will have kids, patience will be important. Also, what time of year would you suggest? My youngest wants to fish at night. As we will probably be camping, I am thinking late Spring or early Summer. Would appreciate any suggestions you may have.
The way full moon falls in April this year, that will be excellent fishing as long as no major cold fronts roll thru. The catfish will be shallow along with shellcracker and crappie. As for as a guide, Jacksons guide service out of Eutawville is a excellent guide. He is all about putting you on fish.

Book a trip with Kevin Davis out of blacks camp. Good guy. He really tries hard to show you a good time and is usually successful
Talk with him about doing a combination trip (cats and panfish) that way you are almost sure to catch something.
Search for their website.
He also does a TV show called the Santee Sportsman. Check it out on YouTube to get an idea of how he fishes.
Keven does a good job!
Don Drose is the man if he is still guiding.Someone told me he had retired but is well worth checking out.He has been fishing the lakes successfully for about 40 years. He is a great guy with a ton of knowledge

I forgot to mention Mr Drose is also a excellent striper fisherman as well.

I was about about to mention him, but last time I spoke to him (which was a few years ago), he was fishing out of a 27’ Maycraft, not a pontoon like the O.P. wanted. But he and his brother were/are the men when it comes to Santee catfishing.

RIP my “Puppy Dog” 10/15/2004 - 1/14/2013. I’ll never forget him. What a special friend he was.
2nd Kevin he is a great guy. Have not fished with Don, but have fished with Joe Drose and he was top-notch as well.
Don Drose is the man, but he has retired.
Great Guy. He shared a lot of knowledge with me over the years.
I’d pay him now to come fishing with me…
