Just bought a Taco Neptune Tele T-Top. Any suggestions who can install on my 171 Mako reasonable?
I’m not sure if he does installation without fabrication, but I had some work done on my top by Marc at Carolina Custom Rigging over in Mt. Pleasant – good prices, great work, and a super nice guy. I would recommend him to anyone.
brooks Oswald at Oswald Props. Made a nice one for me.

Installing a t-top is not that hard to do.
Tools needed: Sharpie marker & a pencil, cordless drill, 3/16" and 1/4" drill bits, 5200 marine sealant, lacquer thinner, paper towels or rags(to clean up 5200), #14 X 1 1/4" phillips oval or flathead screws for the deck, 1/4"-20 X 1" or 1 1/4" phillips machine screws(with fender washers and nyloc nuts) for the console. and a helper to help lift the top into your boat.
- Lift top into your boat and position at console.
- Mark mounting holes with pencil or sharpie. mark around the mounting pads with pencil.
- Move top forward and drill 3/16" holes in the deck and 1/4" holes in the console.
- Clean mounting areas of dust from drilling and wipe down with lacquer thinner. Open a beer and try not to think about the holes you just drilled in you new boat. Everything is ok.
- Apply a thin bead of 5200 around the circumference of the mounting pad locations and a little around each hole,(deck and console). It wouldn’t hurt to put a little in the holes in the deck.
- Carefully set t-top back in location and shoot a screw into each of the mounting pads to hold the top in place. Thru bolt the console mounting points, shoot screws into the rest of the holes. Tighten screws at console.
- Clean up the 5200 with the thinner.(hopefully you didn’t use too much and god forbid you get it in your hair or beard)
- Open at least one more beer and admire your work.

Really, it’s not that hard to do. Call me if you need any help.

Hard to get in your hair when you don’t have any.![]()
I have gotten a little in my beard a couple of times. Seemed like I was smelling lacquer thinner for days. I also slung a bit off of a drill bit into my eye. Luckily it didn’t touch my eyeball, just in my eyelashes. I definitely had fun getting that cleaned up.(safety tip–wear eye protection any time using power tools)
