Looking for artist of a painting... UPDATE!!!!

When my mom and daddy first got married he gave her a picture ( he had been in the navy) and it was a picture of a sailor in uniform standing on deck. at the wheel of a ship in a storm and Christ was standing behind him with his hand on his shoulder. Mom loved this pic and Hugo took it along with their other stuff. I had forgotten about it until she mentioned it the other day…and how much she had loved it. I have google searched every phrase I can think of to see if I can find the artist and how to get a copy of it. The only thing even close is a man in a red shirt at the wheel…but the one she had had the sailor with his cap on. Anne here ever seen this picture ? Thanks

Also, nice. Though not your painting.

Woohooo! It’s the first one! Where did you find it listed and who painted it! I’ve been searching all day…I found the second one posted with a hymn with it…but the first one is the one!

I have good news and bad news.

That painting (I think) was turned into a Navy poster. Here is that version.
Edit: the site won’t let me link the picture.

Good news is I found a picture of your painting. Bad news is, all I have is that picture of the painting that was taking down in South America. But, because it is you, Pen I wll keep looking for the name of the painter and name of the painting.

By the way, the title “Jesus is behind every sailor” will lead you to that painting but, I don’t think it will get you the painters name.

Edit: I see where a guy remembers the painting being printed in his old navy manual, “The Blue Jacket’s Manual”. So, if they printed it in there, it is extremely likely that they give credit to the painter. Now you just have to find an old sailor with and old manual.

It’s called “Our Lord of the Sea”. I scanned it with the Google Goggles app on my phone and it popped right up. Looks like you can get it here http://shipstore.thehelmsman.com/ourlordofthesea.aspx

How great are the folks on this web site and how truly wondreful you are to think of such a special gift, that is how is is supposed to be in this world.

I’m glad you found it! CF People,You folks are gems!

Meant to do this earlier and forgot…but thought y’all might like to see the ending to this story…

This is the picture that i received…

Daddy’s old navy book is in front of it…

I am so Blessed to have two such wonderful parents . I can never remember a time where I didn’t feel their love for me.

We have found that the last ship that daddy served on …THE USS SALEM…is still here. It is in massachusets and has been saved… The crew he served With was the last one to serve aboard the ship before it was retired. We are now planning a trip there so he can “re-visit” it. He had thought it had been destroyed so is excited about doing this.
