A buddy of mine new to saltwater is looking at this boat. Anyone have one like it, know anything about it? I’m partial to Yamaha so the motor doesn’t turn me on but I told him I’d try to get some intel on it. He is looking for a boat to fish inshore, shrimp, etc with his son down in Beaufort.
Doug; let him know about mine for sale. it is in good shape. had everything checked out at mid carolina marine the other day. compression in all cylinders is even and strong. only thing not working on mine is the fuel gauge. not sure if it is the gauge or sending unit. anyway; it is a 33 gal tank so no real problem. have him look at all that comes with it on craigslist. he can call me if he wants. thanks
Just sent him a text Bobby.

It looks to me like the T-top could use some bracing. Hard to tell from the pics, but I didn’t see it attached to the console, except maybe at the bottom front legs.

I think I’d tell my friend to pass on that one.

Yea, don’t let your friend buy no ugly boat.

Thanks guys. He has the “fever” so everything he sees gets him excited. He is also looking at a 2000 Angler 204 with a Yamaha 150 on it up in Greenville. Completely different boat and at 16 years old it doesn’t excite me. Trying to get him to slow down and be patient.

cant speak to the sea pro, but I have an Angler 204 albeit a little newer.
I will say that I have learned a lot about what I really want in a boat from it, but not a bad starter boat. Does everything OK nothing great, doesn’t go super shallow and is rough in chop. I’ve been caught offshore/nearshore in pretty snotty conditions and been (**() uncomfortable but not scared for my life.
Very clean fishable layout, but the storage sucks. Cheap starboard hatches. Wiring was a mess until I fixed it. No issues with the hull, although trim tabs are a must to make it functional. Thru-hulls are all metal, deck drains to splash well and out. T-top is pretty solid. Get about 3.5-4 mpg even with my carburated 2-stroke yammy 150. Motor’s been great, have had issues with gauges.
Not at all unhappy with it, but in hindsight I wish I had looked for a little older but better built boat that would have been worth putting money and time into upgrading. Don’t know if there are any significant difference between mine (2006) and a 2000, but I’d be happy to answer any q’s.

Not sure what y’all see bad about that boat. For an '02 it looks pristine. From the looks of it, it appears lightly used. I can’t tell about the t-top bracing but I too would sure check it out. That said, if it’s an '02, has had any use in it’s 14 year life, the t-top surely would have exposed those weaknesses and would be easy to spot. As far as that motor, that’s the best 4-stroke Merc ever had. And it’s a Yamaha block if that matters.
It has aluminum trailer that looks in good shape, sst, vhf, stereo, Lowrance Sonar/GPS, big cooler seat with flip over backrest, the cushion/backrest fabric has no mold or mildew, smart tabs, and Minn Kota Remote Control saltwater trolling motor with it’s own battery(s?). I mean just da…
If he wants a boat for creeking, shrimping, shallow stuff, etc, that Carolina Skiff type hull is great! If that type / style boat interested me, I would have a compression check and check trailer beams for integrity. As long as it Blue Booked fairly and compression was good etc, I’d test drive it and make an offer. That looks about as plumb as an '02 can get. Again, not sure what y’all see wrong with that boat. I bet not many boats out there that look that good with that much equipment for 11-12k.
Thanks Doug for letting Danny know about our boat. he said that it was exactly what he was looking for and i threw in quite a few extas. this boat will treat him well and do what he wants. i am glad that i had the compression check and the rest all checked out. compression was spot on. that is what happens when you have your stuff serviced on a regular basis. thanks again and i will miss the “Big White”. she was a good one to us.
You know where to send the finder’s fee.
JK, glad it worked out for both of you. Enjoy that new boat.
