I have been a diehard canoe fisherman all my life(grew up on the mississippi river near St.Louis and moved here about 16 years ago)I am looking to get a fishing kayak(used) nad was wondering if you guys could make any recomendations for a “big mans kayak”- I am about 275 and wondering what the weight limits are for some of these boats. Also is a sit on top or a sit in better for around here? I mostly fish the cooper river out of cypress gardens landing and some local ponds and lakes. Any input would be appreciated.

Im pretty sure my Scrambler xt has a weight limit of 245…can’t really remember. But a sit on top is your best route, a lot of people who are just out enjoying the water get the sit ins but for fishing its going to be a sit on top. But anyhow, my roommate is about 220 I think and he’s got a kayak rated at 300 and something, he got his at dicks. It’s not stable at all, I kind of enjoy watching new guys to the trade try to jump in it at the landing after watching me just kind of plop right into mine only for them to get a little wet hahaha. Im sure they’re are stable ones out there, it more or less just boils down to looking up specs on yaks as you see them pop up for sale on here or on Craigslist, after a while you’ll know what names to look for and a price rnge to find them in. For bigger guys the Wilderness Systems Ride 135 is a great boat. You’ll find them on Craigslist and on kayak fishing forums from time to time. It’s a very stable yak that I use in my guide service for clients. It’s rated at 400 pounds
