I’m running skinny on finding launches in salt/brackish where I can put our boat and not be stuck at the dock on days we have stiff wind blowing. I have plenty of freshwater launches where there are trees and steep banks that protect us, but not so much in the saltwater.
I only worry about this since I have my 4 year old son with me every time I go. If it were just me and another adult, I wouldn’t hesitate to try out some nervous water.
My boat is a 14’ aluminum with a small motor that tops out at 12mph, and we just fish for general inshore stuff. Not interested in upgrading the motor or boat right now because of the cost, just not a good investment right now.
I really like the Bowens Island area but keep getting whipped and not catching anything. But we are VERY close to safe waters when we launch (up in larger creeks and such).
Folly River launch is just too big, busy, and full of large wake. Bushy park can get that way but occasionally there’s decent fishing in the large cove that forms the launch area.
I would love to get into the Daniel Island area, but I don’t think the marina there allows for non-member launches. Would really like to find a launch that gives me fairly decent access to some larger creeks and such around Folly, Sullivans, IOP, James Island (Harborview) and such.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I don’t mind paying to launch as long as it’s reasonable.

There’s a small ramp off of Virginia avenue underneath I-526 in north Charleston that would put you in the cooper. Good red fishing, trout, flounder nearby. Low tide is very shallow though, but would be great for a small aluminum boat. Just plan to not come back at dead low tide and you’ll be good. Very easy, protected area to put in. Might be questionable characters there after dark.
Shem creek would be good on a weekday when you can park. It’s a pretty long creek and all protected. The other one would be Sol Le gar (?) landing on Folly. It used to be less busy and easy in and out.

I saw the ramp but it leads directly into waters I want to avoid (big cooper river and piles of cargo ships). If I could jaunt up the Cooper I could reach Yellowhouse, which is protected. It looks like it’s about 3-5 miles, which would take me long enough to be a bit of a problem if I had to leave during bad weather.
I think my next trip will either be to Sol Legare, or to the dirt ramp on the back side of Sullivans.

Might be a a little bit of a drive but Garris landing which is the old Moores landing on 17 headed out of Mount Pleasent . It is the Cape Romain area, some of the best fishing you will ever find . Leave the landing cut across the ICW and then beautiful open flats and creeks at your leisure. If you need in help or not familiar PM me and be glad to help.

I could show you some stuff… But trust me fishing that area can be extremly productive. Good luck finding the spot you’re looking for.
Maybe if I get a day with a good weather forcast I can give it a shot (Virginia ave). Thanks!

Take his advice man, at least try it once, thats what raincoats are for. And sol legare gets kinda bad too.. its a little ways to productive creeks.. I've personally seen 2-3' rollers at the ramp a couple times.
With that little jon boat you should be able to launch anywhere a kayak can, just carry it. Try paradise
At the end of Riley rd on James Island behind the movie theaters there is a boat landing with perfect water for what it sounds like you want. It never gets waves, has low traffic, low wind, lots of bait and good fishing. The creek leads to the bridge before the connecter and harris teeter and flows out to the harbor after going under the harbor view bridge the whole thing is usually easy water but the end of the creek that is closer to Riverland dr is usually flat and can be shallow in spots at low tide and has good water flow when the tides moving. I have had good success with the badonk-a-donk SS for sea trout on the incoming tide fishing with the current and Popping cork does well with live or DOA.

17ft Key west
Ill be honest. I was gonna mention that..
Matt the ramp is terrible, you couldn't bak a trailer down, unless you got 4wd at dead high. It has potholes, and at low the ramp stops about 2' from the water. The ramps no longer than your boat. No parking, and not really a good place to leave a truck if you know what i mean. You turn off of central park road to get there
Paradise is open. About all you can get in there at low tide is a john boat/canoe/kayak anyway. Cherry Point is “bigger” water than Paradise, which is exacerbated on the weekends with all the Bohicket Marina traffic tearing through there. That little ramp on Sullivans would also be a good option for you. Hop across the ICW and you are in calm, fishy waters.
on james island central park road there is a small launch site almost across from flemming rd. go look at it first lowtide is tricky due to the road but pleny on water for 14ft-
You might check out Bulow Landing on Rantowles Creek. It’s off 17 a couple miles east of where Bee’s Ferry comes out.

Yes.
Excellent fishing area for reds, trout, and stripers.
From 17, turn right onto Davidson Road. Go just past Poplar Grove and turn right onto the dirt road. You can’t miss it. I think its called “Budlow Landing Road”
