Want to sell my tandem (2006 venture) and get a new (or very slightly used) single axle trailer. Boat is a 19 foot Grady 192.
I have seen singles with 4k lb weight ratings. I currently have an aluminum trailer, but would consider galvanized as well.
What do you guys see that you like – and what would you avoid, as well as what should I expect to pay?
I do want brakes on the axle – electric or surge? I have the controller for electrics on the truck already – but not so sure about dunking electrics. Also not sure about the expense of either system.
An important thing to me is getting the boat down out of the wind. My current trailers axle width wont allow the boat to sit between the fenders, only above.
Let me know where to look and who to trust! Thanks!
192grady the problem with your venture trailer is it is not fitted to your boat. They build a cheap trailer to length specifcations and send them out to retailers. Get you a trailer that is built for your boat model specifically. You will be pleasantly surprised as to how that set up will trailer. Find someone near you that sells Wesco trailers. Jerry builds a fine trailer an he cares about his work. Its not the cheapest trailer out there but you have been there done that. Not dogging on the Venture trailers for some that is all that one may need and serves its purpose. But a more boat model specific trailer will make a world of difference when trailering long distances. PM me if you would like and I can give you some contacts for Wesco trailers. There are some other great trailers out there as well however Wesco is what I have the most experience with…they are built in Columbia SC. Good Luck!
if you’re shopping for a new alum. trailer, call owens & sons (in st. pete fl.) for a price. you maybe suprised. i’ve had them build me two trailers (two different boats). at least get something with torsion axles so you have to worry about rusting springs.
