Anyone seen any good deals on a capable but not expensive reel with good line capacity? New or used ok. Wish I could drop the big bucks, seen plenty in that range I like, but just not the time.
I have a colton that holds plenty of line and has a great drag. check them out.
chris.
capable is gonna depend on what you want to do with it…
What species, conditions, line type etc… will this reel be facing??

nearshore and big freshwater stuff - big stripers, salmon, steelhead, cobia, AJ’s, and whatever I can find to throw it at! Probably sinking lines or intermediates. Not the super heavy stuff but not a lot of floating either.
Tibor, Galvan, Ross Momentum. I have all three and they have been great reels.
Unfortunately there is a very hard line to walk here. Alot of budget reels will give you the line capacity your gonna need to throw at large spcies in the salt, but they won’t have the drag power to stop those fish and keep them away from hazards (bottom, buoys, etc…)the lower end lamsons for example…
When you start getting into heavy tackle like this skimping on the reel is not a good idea… tibor and abel’s are not necissary but you do want a good solid drag, I would look into the Nautilus 10 or a Momentum 5 they’re pretty mid-range as far as reels go, and they will stop a mac truck…
